Department History

"The Department of Zoology was founded in 1960, and the main direction of the department was aimed at ""comprehensive study of the fauna of Southern Uzbekistan"". In the 1960s-1980s, the department was headed by B.Sc. Associate Professors Sh.Otakhonov, A.Urokov, and Kh.Roziyev. In the early years of the establishment of the Department of Zoology, its material and technical base was very poor. With the efforts of the members of the department, the first ""Live Corner"" (small zoo), a ""Zoology Museum"" enriched with animal models, models and dummies, a ""Teaching with Technical Means"" cabinet, and a Zoology training cabinet equipped with visual aids were established under the Department of Zoology under the leadership of Associate Professor Sharif Otakhonov. In 1980-1998, in connection with the training of personnel in the direction of “Biology and Fundamentals of Agriculture” at the faculty, the name of the department began to be “Zoology and Fundamentals of Agriculture”. The department was headed by Sh. Otakhonov, A. Orokov, O. Davronov. Since 1996, the university has begun to train personnel in the directions of Biology, Ecology and Environmental Protection and Soil Science. In this regard, the departments of “Zoology”, “Ecology and Environmental Protection” and “Soil Science and Agrochemistry” were established in the new structure of the university in 1998. In 1998, the reorganized Department of Zoology was headed by B.Sc. O. Davronov. The newly established departments were headed by the following teachers: B.Sc. G.Bobonazarov, the Department of “Soil Science and Agrochemistry” was headed by the candidate of sciences, associate professor R.Shukurov. The Department of Zoology, reorganized in 1998, operated until June 2014. In 1998-2014, the department was headed by prof. O. Davronov, associate professor Sh.Rakhimov and candidate of sciences, J.Berdiyev. In 2014, the departments of botany and zoology were merged to form the Department of Biology. The Department of Biology operated until 2017. In 2017, changes were made to the university structure and the Department of Zoology and Physiology was established. In 2017-2019, the Department of Zoology and Physiology was headed by the associate professor O.Karimov. In 2019, the Department of Zoology and Physiology was headed by the associate professor G.Bobonazarov was appointed head of the department. The Department of Zoology was reorganized in October 2021 on the basis of the Department of Zoology and Physiology in accordance with the updated structure of Karshi State University. Currently, 9 professors and teachers work in the department with a staff of 8.50. Of these, 1 is a candidate of sciences, professor, 3 are candidates of sciences, associate professors, 1 PhD, 1 associate professor, 3 are assistant teachers. The scientific potential is 65 percent. From October 2021 to March 2025, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Professor G.Bobonazarov worked as the head of the Department of Zoology. In April 2025, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Assoc. Prof. B.Davronov was appointed head of the Department of Zoology. The department conducts scientific research in the following priority areas of scientific research: 1. Bioecology of the fauna of the animal world of Southern Uzbekistan, their rational use and protection. 2. Bioecology of agricultural animals and crops in southern Uzbekistan, parasites and pests that damage their productivity, measures to combat them. 1. Omonova Nafisa Rakhimovna. Subject of scientific work: ""Fauna and bioecology of chicken ectoparasites in the conditions of the Kashkadarya region"" and bioecological characteristics "" 2. Khosilova Guzal Abdikayumovna. Subject of scientific work: ""Parasites of ruminants - species composition and bioecological characteristics of trematodes of the order Paramphistomida Skrzhabin et Schulz, 1937 (on the example of Central and Southern Uzbekistan)"" 3. Orziyeva Yakutoy Matnazar qizi. Subject of scientific work: ""Bioecological characteristics of gastropod mollusks of the southern slopes of the Zarafshon mountain range"" All researchers are engaged in scientific activity in the specialty 03.00.06 Zoology. In November 2024, Toshov O’tkir Jumayevich received the title of associate professor. In May 2025, Norqobilova Zarina Boyqobi qizi ""Species composition and distribution of dragonflies (Insecta: Odonata) of the Kashkadarya region"" received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences on the topic. The department cooperates with higher educational institutions and institutes of the Russian Federation (Altai State University, St. Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine), Pavlodar Pedagogical University named after E. Margulan (Pavlodar, Kazakhstan) and the National University of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University, the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Shahrisabz and Karshi Medical Colleges, the Kashkadarya Regional Health Department, the Kashkadarya Regional Public Education Department and its sub-departments"
