Department History
"The history of the Department of Physiology dates back to 1962. At that time, the department was called ""Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene"", and later ""Anatomy and Physiology"". In 1969, Associate Professor Abdurakhim Abdurakhmonov headed the department. In 1970, Bakhodir Pulatovich Aminov became the head of the department. During these years, teachers Turab Tilavov, Shoniaz Kurbanov, Turakul Urok, Rashida Usmonova, Luiza Khakimova worked at the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. By 1991, the structure of the department had changed and two departments were formed: the Department of Fundamentals of Medicine and the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry. During these years, such professors and teachers as Turab Tilavov, Shoniaz Kurbanov, Turakul Urok, Rashida Usmonova, Luiza Khakimova worked at the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. By 1991, the structure of the department had changed and two departments were formed: the Department of Fundamentals of Medicine and the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry. By 1993, the Department of Physiology was reorganized on the basis of the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry. At that time, the department was headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Shoniaz Kurbanov.
The scientific direction of the department is focused on the priority problems of the physiology of digestion and nutrition, the study of modern nutrition of various population groups, the formation of a healthy lifestyle among the population. The professors and teachers have published 3 textbooks for students of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions (in collaboration with Sh. Kurbanov): ""Physiology and Hygiene of Children and Adolescents"" (2005); Sh. Kurbanov, A. Kurbanov. ""Human Physiology (with Biochemical Foundations)"" (2006); Sh. Kurbanov ""Physiology of Digestion and Nutrition"" (2013), as well as dozens of educational and teaching aids. Lecturer Karim Turaevich Dustov conducted a scientific study on the topic ""Methods of Assessing and Rationalizing the Actual Nutrition of Athletes"", and Rakhmatullaev Yorkin Shokirovich - a scientific study on the topic ""Physiological Nutrition of Rural Schoolchildren and Its Standardization"". A number of candidate dissertations have been defended in these areas.
In 2012-2014, the head of the Department of Physiology was Candidate of Biological Sciences Abdulaziz Shoniyozovich Kurbanov. In 2014-2015, the department was called ""Anatomy and Physiology"", and in 2015-2018 - ""Biotechnology"". During these periods, the department was headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Olim Rasulovich Karimov. At that time, 22 professors and teachers worked at the department (scientific potential 53%): 2 doctors of science, professors, 3 candidates of science, associate professor, 4 candidates of science, senior teachers, 3 senior teachers and 10 teachers. The Department of Biotechnology continued its activities under the name of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, which was formed in 2015 as a result of the merger of the departments of physiology and the Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge. In the 2018-2021 academic year, the departments of physiology and zoology were merged into the department of zoology and physiology. The head of the department was candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Bobonazarov Gaffor Yodgorovich. At that time, the following professors and teachers worked at the department: prof. Sh. Kurbanov, associate professor Salom Urokov, associate professor Jura Berdiev, associate professor Barno Daronov, associate professor Abdulaziz Kurbanov, associate professor Alimardon Rakhmatullaev, associate professor Olim Karimov, associate professor Bakhtiyor Ruziev, associate professor Yorkin Rakhmatullaev, doctor of biological sciences Ikrom Chuliev, senior lecturer Utkir Toshev, teachers Zamira Zubaydova, Karim Dustov, Gulnoza Buranova, Shokhida Umedova, Khulkar Khazratova, Iroda Sattorova and others. In September 2021, the Department of Zoology and Physiology was divided into two independent departments: the Department of Zoology and the Department of Physiology. Candidate of Biological Sciences Chuliev Ikrom Nematullaevich was elected Head of the Department of Physiology. This year, the teacher of the department, Umedova Shokhida Numanovna, under the supervision of Professor Shoniaz Kurbanov, defended her candidate's dissertation in the specialty 03.00.08 - Physiology of humans and animals and received the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy in biological sciences. Currently, professors and teachers of the department have published more than 10 articles in foreign journals, 18 articles in journals included in the list of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 1 textbook, 1 teaching aid, 1 monograph and about 10 teaching aids. Since December 2022, the acting head of the Physiology Department has been candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Rakhmatullaev Yorkin Shokirovich. In May 2023, he was elected head of the department. Over the past period, 3 candidate dissertations have been defended at the department (in August 2022 - Buranova Gulnoza Boymuratovna, in April 2023 - Turaev Yolkin Sherzod ugli and in 2024 - Karimova Mavlyuda Khakimovna). In 2025, under the supervision of Professor Shoniyoz Kurbanov, Khazratova Khulkar Normurodovna prepared and successfully defended her candidate dissertation on the topic ""Actual nutrition of primary school students and its physiological analysis"" on June 30 of this year. Also, the doctoral student of the department Sattorova Iroda Yangiboevna completed work on her doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Professor Mamurzhon Pozilov and discussed it at a scientific seminar on July 14, 2025."
"Currently, 5 doctoral students at our department are engaged in scientific research.
